Are You Offended? Well, That's Too Damn Bad!

The last time I shared something that I thought was hilarious with my friends, I was called a racist.

I posted a picture on my facebook of a group of kids at their prom. The kids were all white, except for one. The caption beneath it stated, "When you see it, you'll shit bricks." If you look hard enough at the picture, you'll see a black kid on the bottom, left hand corner. This kid's evasiveness is what surprises people and is therefore funny.

Look, I get that this may offend people but in the same sense, how many people make jokes about my skin colour? My friend the other day told me that I'm so white that I'm translucent. How is that any different than the picture stated above? A joke is a joke. No one added that caption to the picture and thought, "You know what? I hope I offend the black community!" No. Most people found it hilarious. In fact, the only person it did offend (of my friends) was a white person.

Why are we, as a society, so hell bent on being politically correct? Why can't we all shake it up, have a little fun and stop being so serious? In this day and age, most people can take a joke. Most people realize that everyone else is just joking around and having a little fun. To those people, I tip my imaginary hat. Good for you! For those of you who take life too seriously and get offended by the slightest joke, well, take that large stick out of your ass.

As my cousin says, "I don't discriminate--I make fun of everyone."

For me, it's worse than just posting pictures. Every time I go to write a blog I have to think of the people that it may offend. If I make a colourful joke about someone, is another person going to get offended? What if I write about the fact that Justin Beiber (Bieber? Beeber? Whogivesafuck?) looks like a butch lesbian. Is that going to seriously offend someone?

From this point out, I don't give a shit. I am not making libelous accusations so I think that I'm in the right to state my own opinion. As everyone on ONTD says, "Haters gon' hate."

Being a writer comes with a lot of territory. And if there's anything I've learned after reading Megan McCafferty's books more times than I can remember it's that Kingsley Amis had it right.

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."
